Chalk it up

The world is coloured by our experiences, and for that I think sometimes it’s more important to draw from your surroundings than to look too deep within.

This look started with part of a MichaMi dress. I favoured this top for its cut and deft shading on the body; Milla Michinaga pays attention to the little details giving rise to designs that look good on the hangers but even better on your avatar, complimenting every curve. Over the top is a racerback waistcoat from Willow; if you haven’t already heard of this store, I really would urge you to pay a visit as Weezey Warwillow is building a charming collection of well-made separates at very reasonable prices.

The under top is a blouse from Bublee Bing. I’m very distrusting of ‘Pay’ vendors when it comes to clothing as I can never gauge the layering options. I’m pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed with my purchase as the top is provided on every layer, enabling me to achieve the look I wanted. The sheer blouse comes complete with a modesty layer, and features a stylised floral pattern; adorned with delicate ruffle sleeves, it’s a pretty piece that can be paired with pants or skirts for simple day wear.

Shorts are from L’Abel, dropping from a pleated satin waistband to flared legs that finish just above the knee, the material carrying a subtle spotted print that adds interest. I couldn’t resist slipping on these knee high socks from Izzy’s to go with them; pulled tall and held by ribbed elastic to the tops, the lightly wrinkled socks are footless, which means they look just as good with flat pumps as they do with stiletto heels.

As it happens, I chose Pixel Mode’s Baby T’s for this styling, not least because of the sublime blue leather which added a touch of colour to the outfit. The Baby T’s are simple stilettos with platform sole allowing for extra length on the heel, creating a compact but lofty shape that flatters the feet. Very chic and easy to slip on when you’re not sure quite what else to wear.

I pulled in more colour on the accessories to balance the shoes. Shell and metal bangles from Zaara give coverage on the arms, with a necklace from Burroughs giving colour accents up top and breaking up the neckline. Nail colour can also be powerful when putting together a look; I chose Exodi’s sculpted nails, offered in several hand sizes with tintable gloves to match to your skin for a seamless finish. I find a lot of prim nails on the grid look rather plastic – which is great if you want to look like you just left the nail bar, but usually I’m looking for a more natural finish. Ryker Beck’s nails offer just that, softly rounded with just a little extension, they look very real on the hand. There are plenty of colours to choose from so well worth a look.

Finally to mention the poses from !BANG, a store which I believe is quite fresh on the grid. The collection isn’t huge at the moment, but there’s a nice selection of couples and singles poses as well as a group pose prop that can be bought in individual sections and set together. There’s a dollarbie ‘Just for Fun’ set in store at the moment which is sure to make you smile, so be sure to pick that up when you stop by.
