Soft Farewell

Fantasy clothing isn’t usually my thing, but Evangeline Miles has a habit of turning my head. Her latest Ren set is just too tempting; with laced bodice, bustled skirts and a multitude of options to play with, it’s no real wonder that my crew raised anchor and set sail before I’d even chosen which way to wear this.

Ren is based around a boned corset with runched undershirt, options available for short cap or full sleeves. Accentuating your curves in the most wonderful way, the bustle spreads wide around the hips and pinches front and back – you can choose from a mini skirt, double layered with the same fabric as the blouse, full skirts or a mid-length. The entire outfit can be worn clean or ‘messy’, wonderfully ragged to the hems with discolouration for an old and unclean appearance. As far as I’m concerned this is the ultimate for playing dress up – fairytale heroines, tavern wenches and would-be pirates alike can all find the right look by combining pieces within the set.

As I chose some fairly dark accessories, I did add an underskirt from PixelDolls just to bring everything together. It’s heavily edited to create an opening at the front, but the waterfall net effect and solid back panelling are part of the original, rather the trademark of Nephilaine Protaganist.

Boots are from SLink and give the outfit just the right amount of practicality, don’t you think? With small, stacked heel and pointed toe, the uppers are crafted in shiny leather with plunging front and back, full length zippers to the inner leg and banding around the ankle and beneath the heel for additional detail. They serve just as well for seafaring folk as for the equestrian enthusiasts they were originally designed for.

Project Donate has begun; if you’ve not heard already, the project is about fundraising for good causes with the idea of four charity events, each lasting two weeks, being held on a designated sim. From 4-19 September 2010 money will be raised for UNICEF Pakistan Flood Crisis – donate freely or purchase items on the sim to support the cause.

There are so many different things you can buy to support the cause: the hair I’m wearing is new from Truth, sold as a bargain priced fatpack with options for attachment points and an accessory to suit. Aloha is a loose do, sleek on top with a mass of soft curls falling over the shoulders and down the back. The style is very full with natural, bouncing movement and has a unique chain of seashells strung to the right hand side (you can wear without if preferred). I love this rich, burgundy tone although you really will find yourself spoilt for choice with 55 colours available.

A pirate really shouldn’t be without her pieces of eight, but she can be convinced to part with her coin for greater treasures like this necklace from SIGMA Jewels. Circe is sold in a pack with two metal options and attachment points, making it easy to match to your look. Set on delicate chains, rows of beads and metal tubes are suspended above the line of embossed medallions fixed in turn with drop pendants. SIGMA always produce high quality pieces and have a selection available for Project Donate, so make sure you check them out when you’re there.

There are a number of pose makers supporting UNICEF; Katey Coppola of Glitterati has produced a brand new long hair set, ideal for use with Aloha or indeed any other lengthy tresses already in your inventory (or pending purchase at Hair Fair). The stances range from cute to sassy and most will work with prim skirts too, which is an added bonus.

Unfortunately there were no pirate hats in sight on the Project Donate sim, so I made my way to Illusions to find this tricorne. Dipped at the front, the high brim peaks to a feathery finish, with both parts colourable on click to best match your style. I must admit I always find Illusions a pleasure to shop at: Siyu Suen’s vendors all give the option to purchase items as copy or transfer, most items are colour change and you will earn loyalty points if you subscribe to the store scheme, so you can always be sure you’re getting excellent value for money.
