Grey Day

Whether I’m meeting a friend for coffee or a client at work, I always seem to be faced with a deserted room, too early for the agreed appointment. I’ll order a drink and nurse it, doodling idly in my notepad until my associate trapses in – fashionably late.

This is entirely the reason a girl needs a roomy bag. I always carry a paper and pen, touch-ups for my face, and a mass of other bits and pieces that just might come in handy or keep me occupied when I’m sitting waiting for someone. Storin’s tote offers the impression of plenty, featuring an MP3 player peeping from the pocket and a cubic key fob dangling at the base of the handle. The bag has stitched detail and comes with a shoulder attach should you prefer it: ideal for those occasions where you’re packing the kitchen sink.

I ran with a grey theme today, not least because I fancied a Gala Phoenix makeover. The silvered eyes on this makeup have a wonderfully cold feel, the metallic shimmer reflected to some extent by the sheen of the lips. There are a great many reasons why I’m so enthralled by these skins, not least due to the level of detail seen on the body. The ears feature standard piercing holes, the body has various imperfections and a soft mottling that avoids an airbrushed feel, with an emphasis placed on the finer detail that really brings the whole thing to life. By the time my friend arrives I may well have thawed out a little, but for now this is the perfect ‘just in from the cold’ look.

I’m wearing a cropped jacket from Apple May Designs: it’s part of a set and does come with an extra piece to the bottom, but for the purpose of this outfit I wanted a tighter fit. I love the fact that it’s been patched up, twice to the front and again at the back, with pushed up sleeves and a wide, stiff collar that gives a wide circle of the neck – a perfect showcase for the jewellery by Dark Mouse (which I’ll come back to a little later).

The undertop is actually part of a Decoy dress. It runs a halterline neck with very little to the back, but I was more interested in the front here. With the bust drawn tight to an open segment of gemstone buttons, the tops draws low at the bust, deep blue straights running from diagonals beneath the chest for a further emphasis. It tucks in nicely to these jersey pants from Veschi – they ooze comfort but maintain a high level of glamour as they cling to the body in all the right places. With the sash waist gathered with a beaded rosette, the trousers part from the leg at the thigh, blooming out to an excess which is drawn tight again just above the knee. The detail there is superb, although admittedly my favourite aspect of these has to be the backside, with the pants fitting like a second skin. Expect to be followed religiously while wearing these.

The stockings are a torn pair from Sheer, which are rather hidden here, although the beginnings of a ladder can be seen on the right knee. They have a rather sexy back seam that gives further definition to the legs, becoming lost then into the backs of these shoes from G-Field. They’re a sweet pair of pumps, simple leather slingbacks with a bow accent. These do fit like the real thing – by that I mean that unless you happen to be Cinderella, you will see the interior of the shoe around your feet at certain angles. Demos are available in the store if you’re unsure.

I do love this jewellery set by Mouse Mimistrobell, statement earrings pairing beautifully with a multi-pendant necklace. With a circular theme, gems and metals are set within thin discs and suspended from the exaggerated neck chain. The earrings are similarly styled and certainly demand attention, neatly clustered and hanging low from a simple hooked wire through the ear. I’m also wearing the matching bangle, almost hinged in appearance, folding out around the wrist.

To ensure my accessories had a chance to shine, I needed an off the neck hair style. I opted for this fabulous side-pony style from Truth. Whether you’re going for retro-chic or cutesy strumpet, Molly is a fun and flirty style that will suit most faces. Giving a soft edge with a thick fringe framing the face from a side parting, the body of the hair is pulled back to twist in a knot high on the right side of the head. The whole thing has a gentle wave thoughout, with a looseness about it that suggests you haven’t tried too hard. This simple style has been well thought out, hardly cutting the shoulder in most poses, despite its falling length. It definitely pushes the right buttons with me.
